The Budget Session, 2007 of Parliament (10th Session of the Fourteenth Lok Sabha and the 210th Session of the Rajya Sabha) is scheduled to commence on Friday, the 23rd of February, 2007 and subject to exigencies of Government Business, the Session will conclude on Tuesday, the 22nd of May, 2007. During this period, the two Houses will adjourn for a recess for 27 days on Wednesday, the 21st of March, 2007 to reassemble on Wednesday, the 18th of April, 2007 to enable the Department–related Parliamentary Standing Committees to examine the Demands for Grants relating to various Ministries/Departments and make their reports to the Houses. The Session will provide a total of 42 sittings – 19 sittings during first part of the Session before recess and 23 sittings during second part of the Session.
The Session will mainly be devoted to the financial business relating to Railway and General Budgets for 2007-2008 and discussion on the Motion of Thanks on President’s Address. However, essential Legislative and other Business will also be taken up during the Session.
The Railway Budget for 2007-2008 will be presented in the Lok Sabha on Monday, the 26th of February, 2007 immediately after Question Hour and the General Budget for 2007-2008 at 11.00 a.m. on Wednesday, the 28th of February, 2007.
To finalise the Government Business for the Budget Session, 2007, the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Information and Broadcasting took a meeting with Secretaries/senior officers of the concerned Ministries/Departments on 20.02.2007. During the meeting, 57 items (47 Bills, 8 Financial items and 2 Non-Legislative items) were identified for Budget Session, 2007. The Bills identified for the Session (Annex) includes four Bills replacing the Banking Regulation (Amendment) Ordinance, 2007 (No. 1 of 2007), the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (Amendment) Ordinance, 2007 (No. 2 of 2007), the National Tax Tribunal (Amendment) Ordinance, 2007 (No. 3 of 2007) and the Sports Broadcasting Signals (Mandatory Sharing with Prasar Bharati) Ordinance, 2007 (No. 4 of 2007) promulgated by the President during inter-Session period.
