PRESS RELEASE

 

 

   The Budget Session, 2006 of Parliament (Seventh Session of the Fourteenth Lok Sabha and the 207th Session of the Rajya Sabha) is scheduled to commence on Thursday, the 16th of February, 2006 and subject to exigencies of Government Business, the Session will conclude on Friday, the 28th of April, 2006.  During this period, the two Houses will adjourn for a  recess for 16 days on Friday, the 17th of March, 2006 to reassemble on Monday, the 3rd of April, 2006 to enable the Department–related Parliamentary Standing Committees to examine the Demands for Grants relating to various Ministries/Departments and make their reports to the Houses. The Session will provide a total of 38 sittings – 21 sittings during first part of the Session before recess and 17 sittings during second part of the Session.

 

     The Session will mainly be devoted to the financial business relating to Railway and General Budgets for 2006-2007 and discussion on the Motion of Thanks on President’s Address. However, essential Legislative and other Business will also be taken up during the Session.

 

          The Railway Budget for 2006-2007 will be presented in the Lok Sabha on Friday, the 24th of February, 2006 immediately after Question Hour and the General Budget for 2006-2007 at 11.00 a.m. on Tuesday, the 28th of February, 2006.

 

To finalise the Government Business for the Budget Session, 2006, the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Information and Broadcasting took a meeting with Secretaries/senior officers of the concerned Ministries/Departments on 13.02.2006. During the meeting, 58 items (47 Bills, 9 Financial items and 2 Non-Legislative items) were identified for Budget Session, 2006.  The Bills identified for the Session (Annex)  includes  one Bill relating to the National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions (Amendment) Ordinance, 2006, promulgated by the President on 23.1.2006.
