Sittings of the second part of the 14th session of Fourteenth Lok Sabha and the second part of the 214th Session of the Rajya Sabha resumed on Wednesday, the 10th of December, 2008. Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha adjourned sine die on Tuesday, the 23rd of December, 2008. This part of the Session provided 10 sittings of both the Houses of Parliament spread over 14 days.
2. The Minister of Home Affairs made a statement regarding recent terrorist attacks in Mumbai. The statement was followed by Short Duration Discussion in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. At the end of the discussion, a Resolution condemning the heinous terrorist attacks in Mumbai by terrorist elements of Pakistan, moved in both the Houses, was adopted unanimously.
3. In the Lok Sabha, Short Duration Discussion under Rule 193 were also taken up on (i) situation arising out of bomb blasts in various parts of North-eastern States, with particular reference to Assam; and (ii) review of the Economic situation in the country. An half-an-hour discussion regarding malnutrition was held in Lok Sabha.
4. Second batch of Supplementary Demands for Grants (General and Railways) for 2008-09 were discussed and voted and their related Appropriation Bills were introduced, considered and passed by the Lok Sabha during this part of the Session. Thereafter, the Rajya Sabha considered and returned these Appropriation Bills. Statutory Resolution regarding recommendations contained in the Ninth Report of the Railway Convention Committee (2004) appointed to review the rate of dividend payable by the Railway Undertaking to General Revenues etc. was considered and adopted in both the Houses of Parliament.
5. During the December Session, 18 Bills (10 in the Lok Sabha and 08 in the Rajya Sabha) were introduced. The Lok Sabha passed 18 Bills and the Rajya Sabha passed 19 Bills during the session. Total number of Bills passed by both Houses of Parliament during the Session is 19. Three Bills, namely, the Standards of Weights and Measures (Enforcement) Amendment Bill, 2005, the Standards of Weight and Measures (Amendment) Bill, 2005; and the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes (Reservation in Posts and Services) Bill, 2004 were withdrawn in Rajya Sabha.
